So, you wrote a break-up letter to fear and perhaps you are wondering what your next steps on your journey with fear. I acknowledge you for staying on this path; it’s not necessarily easy! The break-up letter is a phenomenal starting point of declaring what you want and where you stand with fear. Next comes curiosity, going within to face the fear, allowing it to be your teacher, embracing it, and thanking it!

Let’s dive a little deeper into these next steps on your journey with fear!

Step 1: Be a curious observer of your fears

Fear has a way of separating us or making us feel something is wrong. Observe the patterns within your fears. What are your attachments related to fear?

Journal what you notice. For example:

  • something is missing
  • doing something wrong
  • comparing yourself to others
  • fearing the future
  • being hard on yourself
  • replaying it over and over again

This is a short list of ways fears can create terror within us.

Next, notice the “Fear Storm”

Continuing to focus on the fear patterns is not healthy. In fact, you are very powerful and spinning out of control with fear means you are creating what I call a “fear storm”. It’s cloudy – which impedes your vision of what is true reality. The loud thunder and windstorm is coming from your own emotion and negative thoughts about the fear. The rain falling from the sky is precipitation that is formed from your attachments.

Your attachments to whatever this “fear storm” is creating is blocking your clarity. It is keeping you unplugged from reality. At some point the “fear storm” gets so intense that you try to find solutions.  If those solutions are outside of your personal power – then you give your power away to things like self-sabotage, blaming, assumptions, and what-if scenarios. All of this never actually deals with the fear. It is a coping mechanism that keeps the “fear storm” alive.

Create a new weather pattern

If you want sunny skies, the only thing to do is to focus on the light within you. It cannot be found outside of yourself. It is time to take your power back. You know that saying, “You were the one you were waiting for”? Well in this case that is exactly true.

You are powerful. You are a divine being, and you are the key to breaking through this “fear storm”.

There is nothing outside of us that can conquer fear.

We can only go within to do so.

This requires knowing who you are. So who are you? Spend more time in the day focusing on the good qualities about yourself that bring you in alignment with your virtues.

Who are you not? You are not x, y, z… whatever the story is on loop in your mind.

When fear has such a tight grip on us, all we have left to do is surrender. It does not mean give up. Instead, it means to accept and allow. This part of you is done. You no longer need it.

Allow the fear to be your teacher

As you allow the fear to be your teacher, you are learning from the fear. This is a good thing!

Is the fear leading to a pattern of avoidance in some area of your life? If so, identify what it is.

Walk or run towards the fear

Stop avoiding. What if you went towards the thing you were avoiding and realized it wasn’t as big of a deal as it seemed? That is actually something I have noticed from my personal experience, but I never realized it until I am on the other side of it. This means I have to walk – or even run – towards the fear.

Thank the fear and release your attachments

What attachments do you need to let go of? Make a list. Reflect on that list. You can only let go of fear when you are no longer attached.

Can you be grateful for the fear? This is one of the crucial next steps on your journey with fear. It created an opportunity to serve you. Ultimately knowing the fear and conquering it has taught you one thing: you are more powerful than you give yourself credit for being.

What if letting go is hard?

Well, my dear, do it anyway. But do not focus on how hard it is. Focus on the rebirth taking place within you. Spend more time giving this attention.  You are letting things die within you so you can have the opportunity for a reset.

You are creating a new you! This new version of you is one that embodies a higher vibration – perhaps more free, more aligned with good, more confident, more curious, more passionate.  If you could upgrade yourself, what would it look like? Focus on creating this aspect of yourself that is in alignment with your higher self. It is your divine essence. You can do this!
