I’m a certified meditation instructor and an avid meditator with 15 years under my belt.  I have made plenty of meditation mistakes along the way! Most importantly, I’ve learned from it all.  Yet, I continue to have a meditation practice that enhances my life. As a result, I have a passion for helping others establish a consistent meditation practice!

Misconceptions about meditation is very common. It’s absolutely possible to have a meditation practice that supports you… if you  avoid these common mistakes.

Common Meditation Mistakes:

Lack of patience!

It takes practice to develop your meditation muscles, much like it takes time to train for a race. Don’t expect to have a perfect level of concentration every time. In fact, expect mind chatter. It will happen often. However, a good meditation practice means learning how to increase focus and release mind chatter. I recommend the River Technique, which is part of the Max Meditation System™.

Deciding, “it’s not my ‘thing'”.

Not so fast! Meditation works for everyone. Of course it’s not your natural state to be silent and still, yet that is why we practice. The rewards are many, including the ability to improve focus and accomplish more! Meditation is meant for someone who has an active life, and wants to explore all possibilities.

  • Don’t rule out meditation all together. Try an established system of meditation with a proven track record of success.
  • Do try something other than self-taught meditation.
  • Don’t just rely on a recorded meditation track to guide you through it.
  • Expand your horizons and develop a diverse practice based on different techniques.

Inconsistency is the #1 mistake.

Deciding to meditate here and there every other week for 10-15 minutes WILL NOT lead to lasting results. The benefits of meditation published in this Harvard meditation study requires a consistent practice. The results that yield huge benefit require a daily meditation practice for at least 30 minutes a day. That being said, even practicing 1-3 times per week is better than a couple of times a month.

For best results, get training to support your at home practice. I recommend meditation training with a proven track record of success. The meditation style that I teach offers a variety of techniques that are rooted in history, and have been handed down in a direct wisdom school lineage. It’s based on the ancient style of meditation. As a result it  leads to better health, improved sleep, expanding consciousness, and improving focus, to name just a few of the benefits.

Some of the styles of meditation that I recommend are:

How do I know these meditation techniques work?

I use these powerful meditation techniques to enhance my physical health, reduce the effects of stress, manifest my goals and deepen my connection to source.   My students have found the same to be true.
