One of the greatest gifts we can give our children is to be the brightest light that we can be. As a mother this is what I am calling my “Goddess essence”. Kids learn so much by observing us. I often ask myself, how can I be the best version of myself? How can I be embodying the goddess as a mother? This is a topic that I addressed on Jordan Bain’s podcast

For me, it’s okay to be a work in progress. I am not perfection, and that alone is a great concept to reinforce with our children. However, I am doing everything that I can to keep improving. This is also what we ask of our kids when we say “do your best”.

Kids often offer the best reminders. I have learned so much by what they reflect back to me about myself. I’d like to share some of the reflections that I have gained from being a parent.

Celebrate your child’s uniqueness

Get really curious about your child. What archetypal energy do they hold? What do they do that brings them joy? Do you notice themes related to how they express themselves. Without pushing any agenda on them, what are his/her interests?

This is done through observation and asking questions! Encourage them to explore and be curious about life. It’s important to have many experiences and then don’t judge them as “good” or “bad”. This is how they learn!

Be aware of comparison and judgment

Stop comparing yourself to other mothers! Women can judge themselves and each other harshly. You are a completely different person than every other mother on the planet! None of us are alike – we were all different before we became mothers and we will continue to be. However, wonderful things happen when parents come together as a community to support each other.

Create a support team

Have a team of people who contribute to your child’s life. They thrive when they have a variety of people who care about them and what to see them succeed. This also means as parents, it’s important that we model this to our children.

Do you have space in your life to create a community of people to help support you? For example you could have a mentor that helps with your career, relationships, emotions, physical or financial health.  Do you have a team of people who support you in evolving on your spiritual path? Don’t forget that you can also create a team of beings of light to support you. Pray, meditate, ascend the tree of life – and ask for help.

I often suggest that parents use your intuition and the powerful tools that we offer in this sacred lineage to expand your service as a parent.

Have joy and share that with your kids

I think most of us can agree that life doesn’t need to be so serious! We can be playful as adults. It’s important that we express our creativity in a way that brings us joy. Hopefully that will lead kids to seeing that joy comes from within and it is important to express it. As a parent, this happens naturally when we make learning fun. It may be a game or a story you tell your kids to help them understand a concept.

How you live your life matters

You can only help your kids to the degree that you are willing to help yourself. I have an example of this related to teaching kids how to meditate.

Over the years parents have asked me to help their kids to learn how to meditate to help kids with anxiety. As much as I want to help, I have learned from experience that the parents also need to be open to learning how to meditate themselves. Otherwise, teaching kids to meditate doesn’t have a lasting effect. If your child is anxious and you want to give them tools, then the most effective way is to BEGIN A JOURNEY YOURSELF. I know from experience it is worth the investment. As you change, it will affect others in your life as well, especially those close to you. Once a parent sees the benefit of meditation in their own life, then they will be better able to guide their child through the beauty of having a meditation practice.

How to model free will as a parent

Teach kids about the importance of free will. It is their choice when they respond a certain way. If they don’t like something, how can they choose to respond in a different way. Learning about their will and how they can affect change at a young age will serve them well.

Live this way yourself. You can’t teach them something that you don’t have established in your own life. When do you find yourself feeling like something is out of your control? You may not always agree with a situation, but how you choose to respond is within your control. If you feel triggered and are not able to shift it – then reach out for support. There are always options whether it is helpful to read about solutions, talk to a mentor, or receive a healing session to help you create balance.

In the Universal Hermetic Ray Kabbalah we spend an entire year focusing on how to help people shift into living life with more joy, abundance and releasing negative patterns so you can accomplish more of what you came here to do. There is always a way! Even if you don’t feel you are living in alignment with your highest version of yourself – you can always choose to change.

How I choose to live as a mother each day matters. As we change on the inner level we also create change in the world around us. This is exciting! It means the ripples of your positive decisions will create a positive impact.
